This 3.42-lb machine is designed to let consumers surf the Internet and perform other light tasks on-the-go. The S12 comes pre-loaded with Windows XP, has a full-size keyboard, and includes a six-cell battery for five hours of run time. It is powered by an Intel Atom N270 processor (1.60GHz), runs Windows XP Home Edition, supports Intel GMA 950 integrated graphics, has 1GB RAM memory, sports a 12.1-inch widescreen display (with 1280 x 800 pixel resolution and a screen aspect ratio of 16:10) with LED backlighting, has a 160GB 5400RPM hard drive (Hitachi HTS543216L9A) and is powered by a 6-cell Li-ion battery (11.1V, 52Wh). The S12 is constructed of ABS plastic and has a matte finish, while the lid is glossy plastic front and back. The glossy screen tends to attract dust and fingerprints easily, so a microfiber cloth should come in handy. The netbook allows users to adjust brightness in ten levels. The IdeaPad S12′s keyboard is full-size, and netbook comes with a small cooling fan which pushes lukewarm air out of an exhaust vent on the left side of the machine. The netbook supports Dolby® Headphone™ audio output, which allows users to enjoy surround sound through any set of headphones. Dolby Pro Logic® II lets users listen to music, watch movies, or play video games with the dramatic surround effects. The S10-2 also features a multitouch pad that allows users to enlarge, reduce and edit images by drawing with fingers. It also comes bundled with Lenovo Quick Start which is a software platform that enables access to favorite applications. Within seconds, boot a web browser, music player, online games, photo viewer, an IM tool, Skype and a shortcut to Lenovo social networking. It also has a Lenovo VeriFace™ face recognition software that recognizes a user’s face and uses that to log onto the system. Other features on the S12 is the Lenovo OneKey™ Rescue System which enables users to restore their system from a crash or virus with a click of a button, and Advanced Thermal Engineering which delivers lower temperatures on critical contact areas such as the palm rests, keyboard, track pad and underside for optimum comfort. The S12 also features USB 2.0 ports, 4-in-1 card reader and a VGA outlet for external monitor.
